Death

HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — One person is dead in a motorcycle crash in Henry County. Virginia State Police responded to Route 220 at the intersection of Route 670 in Henry County just after 7 Tuesday evening. VSP says a 2016 Harley Davidson was traveling southbound on Rt. 220 when it ran off the right side of the roadway, struck the guardrail and overturned. The driver was identified as Terry Ray Furr, 67, of Bassett, Virginia. Furr was wearing a helmet, VSP says, but he died at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

Terry Ray Furr, 67, of Bassett, Virginia passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021.  He was born September 15, 1953, in Martinsville, Virginia to the late Arthur Gibbons, Sr. and Helen Holiday Gibbons.  He was the owner/operator of Terry Furr Trucking.  He was the past president of Collinsville FOE Aerie #3739, son of an AMVET, Twist the Throttle, helped God’s Pit Crew, and was a member of the Ridgeway Fire Department years ago. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Furr Cockram; and brothers, Allen Furr and Jackie Smith. He is survived by his daughter, Crystal Furr Hopkins (Jamie Lee); son, Michael Furr (Tina); step-sons, Eric Simmons (Rebecca) and Evan Simmons; sisters, Donna Boothe, Jeannie Vestal and Lynn Gibbons; brothers Arthur J. Gibbons, II “Junior” (Dreama), Stan Wade (Robin); grandchildren, William Cockram, Jeremy Richardson, Jacob Dowell, Dakota Furr, Tyler Furr, Camron Hopkins, Roman Simmons; great-grandchild, Kaiden Hale; special companion, Lynn Simmons; and many other special children, nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Sunday, May 2, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
