Death
Charles Allen Furr, Jr. (January 21, 1946 -- November 24, 2010). Survivors: Wife, Betty C. Furr of Quitman, LA; three sons, Charles A. Furr III "Chip" and wife Heather of Ruston, LA, Corley D. Furr and wife Lori of Dothan, AL, Benjamin E. Furr of Quitman, LA. Four grandchildren, Kristen Miller, Kayla Furr, Kasten Allen Furr, and Allie Furr. Father, Charles Allen Furr, Sr. of Boise, ID. Six brothers, Dusty Furr of Baltimore, MD, Dean Furr and wife Lori of Alamogordo, NM, Jackie Smith of Martinsville, VA, Stanley Wade and wife Robin of Hilton Head, SC, Terry Furr of Martinsville, VA, and Junior Gibbons and wife Dreama of Martinsville, VA. Five sisters, Charlene Hodgkinson and husband Randy of Boise, ID, Karla Gerleve and husband Mike of Truth or Consequences, NM, Jeannie Vestal of Winston Salem, NC, Donna Booth of Danville, VA, and Lynn Adam of Danville, VA. His dog, like a son, Hershey Boy Furr. Preceded in death by his stepfather Authur Junior Gibbons, Sr., his mother Helen Holiday Gibbons, and his "mom" Vera Paulk Furr. Mr. Furr served in the US Navy from July 1967 -- July 1971, served in Vietnam from December 1967 -- January 1969. While in the service he earned many medals and awards; Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defence Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Silver Star, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, Gallantry Cross Medal Color with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign with 1960 Device. He was a christian, loving husband, father, and paw paw, and a strong advocate of Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of Full Gospel Temple Church. Services will be 10 AM, Monday, November 29, 2010, Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at the Gayla Traina Cemetery, Jonesboro, LA.Endnotes
