Death
James E. Furr, 65, of 3701 Madison Avenue, a gardener at the Fresno State College for seven years, died today in a local hospital. A native of Indiana, Furr had lived in Fresno for 34 years. In World War I he served in both the army and navy and served overseas while in the navy. He was a member of Fresno Post No. 4, American Legion. He also was the first president of the Fresno Dahlia Society and a member of the Fresno Rose Society. His survivors include his widow, Grace; three daughters, Mrs. Paul Barcus and Mrs. Fred Smith, both of Fresno, and Mitzie Furr of San Antonio, Tex.; two brothers, Paul of Palmdale, Los Angeles County, and Rowe of Indiana; four sisters, Mrs. Viola Mosbaugh and Mrs. Maude Woods, both of Indiana; Mrs. Florence Ratcliff of Texas and Mrs. Sibbie Palmore of Chicago, and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 PM in the Stephens & Bean Chapel with the Rev. Harlan D. Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Cemetery.The Fresno Bee, Fresno, California, November 20, 1956
