Mrs. Sarah L. Carter, a Fauquier native who had been living in Middleburg for several months, died March 3, the 78th anniversary of her birth, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mabel Furr. Mrs. Carter was born in Fauquier March 3, 1879, and had been a lifelong resident. She was the wife of the late Ashby Carter, who died in 1938. Surviving are eight children, James W. Carter, Sparrows Point, Md.; Mrs. Charles Furr, Middletown; Mrs. Otis Herring, Woodbridge; Mrs. Fred Waddell, Rectortown; Charles B. Carter, Baltimore; Mrs. Roley Smith, Mrs. Clarence Furr and Mrs. Mabel Furr, Middleburg; 23 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Royston’s Funeral Home, Middleburg. Interment was in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Upperville.The Fauquier Democrat, Warrenton, Virginia, March 7, 1957
