Notes
Death
Van James Furr, 49, the son of James Roland and Martha Jane (Pounders) Furr, was born Jan. 6, 1953, in Barberton, OH, and passed from this life on Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Christian Health Care of Nevada. Early in his life, Van, along with his family moved from Barberton to Vandalia, OH. It was there that he graduated from high school, one of the graduates of the class of 1971. After graduation, Van worked for a time at General Motors in Dayton, OH. He then began employment with a commercial painting business based out of Oklahoma. He traveled throughout the United States painting primarily commercial storage tanks. He later relocated to the Kansas City area where he met Brenda Meyer, his companion of more than 20 years. To escape the city life in the late 1980's, Van and Brenda decided to move to Vernon County, settling first in Nevada, then Montevallo for a short time before making Schell City their home. Van enjoyed hunting and fishing and he and Brenda also liked to spend time at their lake home in Ivy Bend where they boated on their pontoon. All who knew Van knew that he was a hard worker, had a great sense of humor and was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. Early in Van's life at the age of 18, he was baptized at the Church of Christ, Troy, OH. Survivors include his companion, Brenda, of the home in Schell City; his father and step-mother, James R. and Bobbie Furr-Spring Hill, FL; his son, Aaron; Brenda's children, Mike Perrin, Nevada and Linda Mitchell, Kansas City; three brothers-Gary Furr-Bellevue, MI, Stanley Fur-Columbus, OH and Terry Furr-Long Beach, CA; two sisters, Patricia Thompson-Germany and Pamela Morton-Hudson, OH; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends. Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City with Pastor Mike Hutchens officiating. Musical selections were provided by Cliff Wagner. Cremation followed the service. Arrangements were under the direction of the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home, Schell City.Endnotes
