Death
Raymond Howard Furr, 92, of Lubbock, passed away on May 4, 2011. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 7, 2011 in the Abbey Chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2011 at Resthaven Funeral Home. Ray was born on June 27, 1918 in Glendale, West Virginia to Ernest & Mildred Furr. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Emma; wife, Dorothy; brother, John; sister, Lee; sister, Thelma; and son, John. Ray was a resident of West Virginia and Ohio before being stationed at Reese Air Force base with the Army during World War II. Ray became a longtime resident of Lubbock after his service. He married Emma Reuse in 1941; after her death in 1987, he married Dorothy Dailey. Ray worked in the car business throughout the United States for over seventy years, and he owned and operated the Lubbock Auto Auction for over sixty years. He was a member of Lubbockview Christian Church and a 32nd Degree Mason in the Yellowhouse Lodge for many years. Ray is survived by his stepbrother, George Conley of Parkersburg, West Virginia; sister, Margaret Straley of Glendale, West Virginia; son, Raymond "Shorty" Furr, Jr. of Lubbock; son, Charles "Tadpole" Furr and wife Debby of Lubbock; stepson, Rick Dailey and wife Stacee of Marion; stepson, Jimmy Dailey and wife Shirley of Lubbock; sixteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and his very special Maltese, Tucker.
