Death
Dorothy Dailey Furr, 87, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Dorothy “Dottie” was born in Romney, W. Va. and moved to Cleveland, Ohio as a child. Dottie started the “Golden Age Club” in the early 60’s, which was the beginning of the Senior Citizens Program for the City of Lubbock. Serving in many positions in the Parks and Recreation Department during her career, she was the first director of all Senior Citizens Activities of the City of Lubbock. She founded all of the “Senior Centers” which are the center for many senior activities and programs for Lubbock. After 28 years of service, Dottie retired from the City of Lubbock. Dottie married James “Jim” Dailey, Sr. in 1944. Jim died in 1978. In 1988, Dottie married Raymond Furr, Sr. She is survived by her husband, Ray Furr; his sons, Raymond “Shorty” Furr, Jr. and Charles “Tadpole” Furr and wife Debby, both of Lubbock. Her sons, Rick Dailey and wife Stacee of Marion, and James “Jim” Dailey, Jr. and wife Shirley of Lubbock; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lester Reuse of Cleveland, Ohio. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers; two sisters; and a son, Johnny D. Furr. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Dottie’s life this evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 6025 82nd St, Lubbock. Services will be held at Lubbockview Christian Church, 3301 34th St, at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2010 followed by a committal service at Resthaven Memorial Park.
