Death
Frieda C. Furr, 51, a former clinic aide at Glen Forest Elementary School in Fairfax County, died of a stroke May 31 at Virginia Hospital Center-Arlington. Mrs. Furr was an Alexandria resident who worked as a clinic aide for Fairfax County elementary schools from 1988 to 2001. Most of that time was spent at Glen Forest Elementary. For the past 21 years, she also served as a crossing guard, assisting students at Bailey's, Parklawn, Beechtree, Westlawn and Sleepy Hollow elementary schools. Mrs. Furr was born in Memphis and raised in a number of areas, including Arlington. She graduated from Wakefield High School in Arlington and received an associate's degree from Northern Virginia Community College. She was a member of Church of Christ in Falls Church and a past member of the Parent Teacher Associations at J.E.B. Stuart High School in Falls Church and Glasgow Middle School in Alexandria. Survivors include her husband of 32 years, William "Bill" Furr of Alexandria; three sons, Steven Furr of Springfield, Ryan Furr of Washington and Nathan Furr of Columbia, S.C.; her mother, Mary Mott of Cherry Valley, Ark.; her stepmother, Dorothy Mott of Moscow, Tenn.; a brother; three sisters; and a granddaughter.The Washington Post, June 5, 2004
