Cpl. Larry G. Furr, son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Furr of 719½ W. Kibby, has returned to the Marine Corps Base, Camp Hague, Okinawa, after participating in artillery firing exercise at Camp Fuji, Japan. The training exercises were designed to improve the unit's capabilities in delivering time, safe and accurate supporting fire for Marine Infantry forces. Furr serves with the 3rd Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division on Okinawa. He joined the Marine Corps in July 1971.

Death
Larry G. Furr, 54, died at 10:33 p.m. May 31, 2006, at Lima Memorial Health System. He was born Sept. 29, 1951, in Kenton to Homer and Corabelle Ellis Furr, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 21, 1992, he married Maria A. Cortez, who survives. Mr. Furr was a powder coater at Metokote Corp., for more than 20 years. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He loved fishing, spending time with his grandchildren and family and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. Survivors also include three sons, Eric L. (fiancée Kristy Goedde) Furr, Ramiro A. (Sheila) Cortez and Juan Cortez, all of Lima; three brothers, Mike (Glenna) Furr and Howard (Mary Jo) Furr, both of Kenton, and Homer Furr Jr. of Lima; a half brother, Isaac (Laura) Furr of Lima; two sisters, Peggy (Richard) Winegardner of Kenton and Katrina Furr of Lima; and six grandchildren, Cory Cortez, Kade Cortez, Kiersten Cortez, R.J. Cortez, Celia Cortez and Tierra Cortez. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Chiles & Sons - Laman Funeral Homes, Lewis Chapel. Burial will be in Ward Cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 11 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
