10 Mar 1911--BOY KILLED IN FAYETTE--Geo. Crigler was here from Fayette yesterday and informed us of a very distressing accident which occurred at that place at 4 o'clock Wednesday evening. A number of little boys were playing soldier when Otho Furr, aged 7 years, secured a pistol somewhere, and in the make-believe war shot and instantly killed Robert, the three-year-old son of C. C. Cooper.

FAYETTE, Mo. — Graveside services will be held Sunday at the Fayette Cemetery for Otho Kemp “Kent” Furr, 79, of Chico. Furr died Sunday as a result of a heart attack suffered at a Chico golf course. Born July 29, 1903, in Fayette to C.C. and Virginia Furr, he was reared and went to schools in Fayette. In 1927 he married the former Harriett Larkin. He worked in communications for telephone companies and in 1953, purchased two telephone companies and acquired three more later. In 1967 he retired as president of Hartfield Telephone Co. and moved to Sun City, Ariz. He resided there until 1975 when he and his wife moved to Chico. He was an avid golfer and a member of Butte Country Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Allen Furr of Chico, and two grandchildren. The family has requested that those who wish make contributions to Enloe Hospital in care of Hall-Van Hook Funeral Chapel.The Chico Enterprise-Record, Chico, California, October 20, 1982
