Death
Charles Lemuel Furr, 88, died Friday, September 16, 2005 after a brief illness. Charles was born in Alum Bridge, the third child of Daisy and James Furr. After graduating from Glenville State College he taught for a short for the Lewis County School System. During WWII he served as a flight instructor for heavy bombers, B-17's, B-24's, and B-29's at Chanute Field in Illinois. After release from service in 1945, he worked with the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, Avco Corporation and Fairchild Aircraft. He joined the Martin Company at its Canaveral division in 1958 and retired in 1974 while Director of Contracts. He took personal pride in having been one of the founders of the Cape Kennedy Chapter of NCMA. He was a faithful member of Venice Church of Christ. Charles was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia; daughters, Chip Phillips and Barbara Lynn Hammett; and a son, Charles Gregory Furr. He is survived by his wife, Gloria M. Furr; a daughter, Leslye Meffert; a step-son, Jesse Kithcart; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. At this time no memorial service has been scheduled.
