Death

Harold F. Keller, age 98, of Shadeland, passed away 1:05 a.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014 in Woodland Manor Nursing Center, Attica. He had been in failing health. He was born in Fountain County, August 24, 1915, son of the late Clyde & Margaret Woodrow Keller of the Yeddo area. Harold married the love of his life, Catherine Elizabeth Furr, December 7, 1935 in Covington, she preceded him in death June 3, 2009. Harold attended school in Perrysville and spent his early years working on farms. He later went to work for a road construction contractor building highways. He helped build highway 136 & highway 1. Harold went to work for Alcoa in Lafayette on March 3, 1941, he worked as a die cast operator. Harold was a charter member of the Aluminum Workers of America where he served as secretary of the union for 27 years and was union steward for 15 years. He was member of the Stidham United Methodist Church since the early 1950's and was a strong supporter of the church. He was involved in many committees & projects. Harold was a scout leader of Boy Scout troop 25, later 325, for 15 years. He loved taking canoe trips, traveling the U.S. & wood working, especially scroll sawing. He was proud to have built and continually adding on to his home. Harold also enjoyed bowling and was a 44 year member of the Local Merchants bowling league at the old Elston Lanes. Harold was a strong believer in family values and loved helping with family building projects and encouraged family get togethers on a regular basis. Surviving are his children: Ed Keller wife (Lucy) of Attica, Leon Keller wife (Judy) of West Point, Rex Keller wife (Jan) of LaPorte, Ritchie Keller wife (Sue) of Lafayette. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents, four brothers, one sister and his wife of 73 years. Friends may call from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the Stidham United Methodist near Shadeland, funeral service Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor David Inskeep officiating, interment will follow at Farmers Institute Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Stidham United Methodist Church. Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate is handling arrangements.
