Notes
Death
Pansy Louise Furr (nee. Cotton) a resident of Wixom Twp. and former resident of Detroit, died on Sunday, September 30, 2007 at her home in Wixom. She was 96 years old. Born in Lamasco, Kentucky on June 21, 1911, Pansy was one of six children raised by tobacco farmers Fred & Ada Cotton. She left school to work full time on the family farm and would eventually move from Kentucky at the age of eighteen to live with her aunt & uncle in a boarding house in Detroit. While in Detroit she met Hubert Donald Furr and was courted until their marriage on September 8, 1930. The newlyweds stayed with relatives in Lamasco, and later Columbus, before settling in their own home on Westwood Street in Detroit. Like most men and women of her generation, she remained frugal throughout the Great Depression and grew in her appreciation for life’s simple pleasures, afforded to her through health, faith and family. Pansy was a former 50 year resident of Detroit where she attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and had recently enjoyed living with her daughter, Janice in Wixom. She continued her praise of the Lord with New Hudson Methodist Church and was well known for her powerful prayers and lively nature. Although she saw the world change in nearly every imaginable way throughout her nine decades, Pansy was a reflection of old fashion class. She enjoyed going out in formal attire and, until the death of her husband, wore dresses and skirts on all occasions; she never drove a car and viewed her greatest fortunes and blessings in the opportunity to be a mother. In addition to her beloved children, Ronald (Carole) Furr, Doyle (Mary Ellen) Furr, Janice (Loren) Kittle-Kohlhorst, Pansy is survived by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Hubert Donald Furr; her daughter, Barbara Meadows Ashby; son, Leland Furr and 5 siblings. Funeral from New Hudson United Methodist Church, 56730 Grand River Ave., New Hudson, MI 48165, Friday, 12PM. The Rev. Gerald S. Hunter will officiate. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 East Liberty Street, Milford, Thursday 5-9PM. Memorials may be made to New Hudson United Methodist Church Building Fund or to the Furr family.
