Death
Mrs. Mabel Furr Thomas, 74, former Loudoun county school teacher and active church worker, died Saturday afternoon at the Clopton Nursing Home in Paeonian Springs after a long illness. A member of a prominent Loudoun county family, she was born near Bluemont and was the daughter of the late John William Furr and Mary Frances Frasier Furr. Mrs. Thomas was educated at Farmville State Teachers College and had taught in Loudoun public schools for more than 30 years. One of her teaching assignments was at Lincoln high school. She also had taught in the State of Delaware for several years. She was a member of the Methodist church at Philomont and was a former president of the Women’s Society of the Church. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She is survived by her husband, Charles W. Thomas; four sisters, Mrs. E. F. Nelson, Pittsburgh; Mrs. J. J. Kottinger, San Francisco, Calif.; Mrs. G. C. Morgan, Hyattsville; and Mrs. E. C. Dishman, Warrenton, and six brothers, Herman Furr and C. H. Furr, Norfolk; G. L. Furr, Roanoke; L. T. Furr, Atlanta, Georgia; W. J. Furr, Bowling Green, and D. H. Furr, Middleburg. Funeral services held Monday morning from the Colonial Funeral Home of Muse and Reed in Leesburg were conducted by Rev. Harry L. Kidd jr. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery. Pallbearers were Edward C. Dishman. Blakeley Furr, Robert Reed. Thomas Clopton, G. L. Furr and W. J. Furr.Blue Ridge Herald, Purcellville, Virginia, July 14, 1955
