James Fairest FURR
(February 3, 1892 - October 7, 1918)
Private James Fairest Furr is my 2nd cousin 1x removed through his mother, Luvena Gay Hite. His World War I draft card lists his date of birth as 3 Feb 1891. He was not killed in action as a Glenville Democrat obituary states, but died at Camp Meade, Maryland during the 1918 influenza epidemic with pneumonia complications. He had planned to propose to Drusilla Virginia Kidd (1891 - 1955) upon his return from the army. She never married and dedicated her life to teaching school in Glenville, West Virginia. The inscription on the bottom of his tombstone reads: Rest soldier rest, thy warfare is over.
