Death

He was the son of Housen Clifton and Permelia Seely. He came to Fountain County, Indiana as a small child. His father fought in the Civil War. His parents divorced in 1865 and his mother remarried.

Thomas and his brother, William Washington Clifton, were separated and farmed out. He was raised by strangers who treated him well. He received a good education.

He became a teacher and a superintendent. He later became the owner and editor of a newspaper. He edited the 1913 Fountain and Warren County History Book.
