Death
Merna B. Hiatt, 94, of Longview passed away Aug. 21, 2008, at the Northwest Continuum Care Center. She was born Nov. 18, 1913, in Campbell, Neb., to George and Gracie (Price) Reichstein. In 1932 she graduated from Campbell High School. She moved to the local area in 1940. Merna was a member of the First Baptist Church and a the Moose Lodge for more than 50 years. She was a homemaker, loved being with her children, and enjoyed gardening and baking. Merna was generous, loving, full of life, and always had a positive attitude and a smile on her face. Merna is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Lydell "Pete" and JoAnn Peterson of Castle Rock, and Gaylon and Sharon Stowers of Longview; a daughter and son-in-law, Letha and Victor Hytrek of Longview; a sister, Nyla Burling of Kenesaw, Neb.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ardith, Janice and Isyol; and a daughter and son-in-law, Genelle and Milt Furr. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Steele Chapel. Private entombment will take place at Longview Memorial Park. Contributions may be made in Merna Hiatt's name to the Community House on Broadway, P.O.
