LEXINGTON — Dr. Charles Light Showalter, 59, died Sunday (March 26, 1978) in the University of Virginia Hospital. He was born in Rockbridge County Sept. 24, 1918, a son of William E. and Irene (Mett) Showalter. He was a retired veterinarian and graduated from the school of veterinary medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He was a member of Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church. Twice married, his first wife, Marjorie Clemmer Showalter, died in 1947. On Oct. 1, 1949 he married Dorothy Furr, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Richard L. of Princeton, W.Va., Charles D. of Lexington and Dr. Edward G. Showalter of Lexington; one grandson. A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery by Dr. Homer Cornish. The family will receive friends at the residence and from 7-8 tonight at Harrison Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Lexington Life Saving and Rescue Crew.The Daily News Leader, Staunton, Virginia, March 27, 1978
