Death

William Russell “Russ” “Sugar” Figgins Sr., 79, of Delray, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2018, at his home. Born on May 22, 1939, in Front Royal, Va., he was the son of the late Frank I. Figgins Sr. and Thelma V. Knight Figgins. He is preceded in death by his son, Jordan L. Figgins; a sister, Dorothy V. Figgins; and a brother, Daniel L. Figgins. He attended the Delray Christian Church and worked as a horseman for over 35 years in various locations in Maryland and Virginia. Russ enjoyed wood crafting, model airplanes hobbyist, motorcycles and most of all being with his family. He was the beloved husband of Loretta K. Figgins whom he married August 29, 1986, in Mt. Airy, Md.; a wonderful father of 3 children with his first wife, the late Elizabeth J. Figgins, including his son, William R. Figgins Jr. of Mercersburg, Pa. and his daughter, Kimberley R. Stup and her husband John of Chambersburg, Pa. He is also survived by 4 sisters, Susie A. Cheek of N.C., Barbara A. Smith of Va., Virgie M. Roop of Md., and Nancy M. Poffinbarger of Va.; 2 brothers, Frank I. Figgins Jr. of Va. and Edward W. Figgins of Md.; grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Figgins, Taylor N. Figgins, Chase A Figgins, and Exzavier R. Figgins; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. A Celebration of Russ’s Life will be held at from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 21, at Giffin Funeral Home and Crematory in Capon Bridge. A Brief service will be held during the celebration at 10:30 with Minister Eric Bridges.
