Death
Donald R. Dunavan, 54, who devoted many years of public service to the village of Tilton, died at 10:19 p.m. Monday (Dec. 13, 1982) in the St. Elizabeth Hospital emergency room. Vermilion County Coroner Lyle Irvin said Dunavan, of 302 North L in Tilton, suffered a heart attack. Dunavan was a member of the Tilton Village Board and formerly served as village clerk. For 27 years, he was a member of the Tilton Volunteer Fire Department. During that time, he held all offices within the department. He served as deacon and trustee of the United Church of Tilton. A machinist, he was employed at Modern Machine Shop in Danville for 27 years. He attended Tilton grade school and graduated from Danville High School. He enjoyed church activities and working on projects connected with the fire department. Born March 3, 1928, in Montezuma, Ind., he was a son of John A. and Mable Yapp Dunavan. He married Nora R. Furr on Sept. 28, 1954, in Covington, Ind. She survives. Other survivors include his mother, Mrs. Mable Dunavan of Tilton; three sons, Donald W. "Bill" of Danville, Wayne R. of Tilton, and James A. "Andy" at home; a daughter, Diane L. at home; a sister, Mrs. Donald (Betty) Blackburn of Terre Haute, Ind.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, an infant son and a brother. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Pape Memorial Home. The Rev. Orrin Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Songer Cemetery near Tilton. Friends will be received from 24 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
