Death
Nora Ruth Dunavan, 83, of Tilton, passed away at 9:28 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, at North Logan Health Care, Danville. She was born on April 13, 1931, in Lafayette, Ind., the daughter of Volney M. and Laura Newman Furr. She was united in marriage to Donald Ray Dunavan on Sept. 26, 1954, in Covington, Ind., until his passing in 1982. Those who will miss her include her children, Bill (Eileen) Dunavan, Wayne Dunavan, Andy (Kandi) Dunavan and Diane Dunavan, all of Tilton; her five grandchildren; her 10½ great-grandchildren; and her special friend, James “Jim” Wynn of Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son and her brother, Homer Furr. Nora graduated from Veedersburg High in 1949 and then attended Purdue University. She worked for Lincoln Land Moving & Storage, Danville School District 118 and the VA Illiana Health Care System, Danville, from which she retired. Nora was a member of United Church of Tilton and served as the church secretary for 35 years. She also was a member of the Tilton Historical Society and the Frontier Twirlers Square Dancers. Nora loved to garden, play bunco and travel, but mostly loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren. A celebration of Nora’s life will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, Westville, with Dr. Gary Chapman officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Songer Cemetery, Tilton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in her name to the United Church of Tilton or Tilton Historical Society.
