Notes
Death
The death of Sylvanus B. Furr occurred at the family home, May 4th. Remains laid to rest in Layton cemetery. Rev. Hunt in beautiful words conducted the funeral services, reading the 23rd Psalm and speaking truly of the noble, faithful life which as he said, had preached its own sermon, one of faithfulness, truthfulness and honesty. Of Quaker parentage, his strong principles, unblemished character and retiring disposition followed him through life. Strong in faith and trust in God, the last word his feeble lips uttered was his Holy name. Loved and respected by all young and old alike, visited his sick chamber with tokens of love. The Roseand choir assisted by Mrs. Lawton sang his favorite hymns. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. His life was one of greatest devotion to his family and great indeed is the sorrow in this home. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, one son, I. Goodwin Furr, Mrs. W. B. Scott, Margaret, Sylva and Daisy Furr, Mrs. Lorens Bertram. One daughter, Mrs. Ina Holt, having preceded him in death and three grandchildren, John, Joe and Paul James Holt. Mr. Furr was born near Winchester, Virginia, in 1840. When a boy, moved to Illinois and settled in Chatswell, Ill., in 1866; married to Margaret I. Moore in 1876; moved to Lawton, Okla., in 1905, where he has been engaged in farming and stock raising.Endnotes
