JOHN PORT COURSEY 1917-2007
John P. Coursey, 90, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2007.
He was born April 24, 1917, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and spent most of his life in the Hattiesburg and Jackson Mississippi areas. He was a Mason and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Helena in World War II. He retired as an air traffic controller in 1997.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Maurice Coursey; daughter, Bettye Workman; son, Kenneth (Cathy) Coursey; two granddaughters, Heather Coursey and Hillary (Matt) Homan; and two grandsons, Landon and Johnathan.
The family would like to thank Dr. Charles Knight, Dr. Andrea Hackel, and the staff of Homestead Village, especially Buildings D and I, for their compassionate care and many kindnesses.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 - 10:30 Thursday, July 12, 2007 at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
The funeral service will be officiated by Reverend Jim Murphy and assisted by Reverend Don Minton, and will be held immediately following at 10:30 am, Thursday, July 12, 2007 at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Coursey will be laid to rest at Barrancas National Cemetery.
