Jesse Dean Collins

Mr. Jesse D. Collins, 84, of Hamburg, died Friday, May 3, 2002, at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. A native of Montrose and a resident of the Promise Land community outside of Hamburg for most of his life, he was a retired farmer; an U. S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member and deacon of the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church. He was a Mason and a member of the Promise Land Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, T.T. & Dulla Kelley Collins; five brothers & four sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Laverne Kelley Collins; two sons, Larry Collins and wife Nancy and Steve Collins and his wife Ann; a sister, Dorothy Griffith, all of Hamburg; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces & nephews.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, May 6, in the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church with Revs. Kelly Clark and Kenny Williams officiating. Pallbearers were Mike Griffith, Charles Stell, Ronnie Collins, Keith Ladd, Joe Mack Sullivan & Dewey "Scutter" Kilcrease. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Collins, Glen "Poe" Carpenter, members of the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church Adult Men's Sunday School Class and the deacons of Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed services at the Promise Land Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 30, Hamburg, AR 71646.
