Don Kelley, 74, of Hamburg died Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the Stonegate Villa Health & Rehabilitation Center in Crossett. Mr. Kelley was a life long resident of the Promise Land Community outside of Hamburg. He served in the United States Army Reserves for six years. He worked for W. E. Tucker Butane Company, Jim Courson Butane Company, Jordan Bierbaum Butane Company, Ferrell Gas Company and Matthews Gas Company. He also worked for Jones Funeral Home and Jones-Barnett Funeral Home in Hamburg, the City of Hamburg as Police Chief and volunteered for the Hamburg Fire Department. He was a Charter Member and served as a Deacon at the Gardner Baptist Church and he was a member and a Deacon of Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church. He sang in the Promise Land Quartet and he was a life long member of the Mist Deer Camp.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Malvin (Monk) & Nadine Stell Kelley.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Sedberry Kelley of Hamburg; a son, Steven Ray Kelley of Tillar; a special adopted granddaughter, Kylie Carpenter; four sisters, Mary F. (Tilley) Mann, Mary L. Stafford, Faye Wallace and husband, Emmitt, Ann Brooks and husband, Steve, all of Hamburg and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Michael Reese, Bro. Kenny Williams, Bro. Trey Emory and Bro. John Mooney officiating. Burial will be in the Promise Land Cemetery. Pallbearers are Bill Wallace, Sammy Wallace, Bobby Shockley, Billy Stafford, Scottie Stafford, Ben Stell, William Stell, John Stell and Mike Moseley. Honorary pallbearers are Members of the Mist Deer Camp.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home
