Funeral Rites for E.D. Smith Whiteflat (published in the Matador Tribune (Matador, Motley County, Texas) Thursday, October 15, 1936
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church at Whiteflat, Texas Sunday afternoon, October 11 for E.D. Smith, 73, a resident of this county for the past 19 years, who succumbed at his home Saturday morning following a prolonged illness.
Edward D. Smith was born in Leek County, Mississippi, May 12, 1863, and moved with his family to Texas about forty years ago, coming to Motley county in February 1917 where he has since resided. He is survived by his widow, four daughters, Mrs. J.D. Jameson and Mrs. Jack Spray of Whiteflat, Mrs. H.F. Aulick, San Angelo and Mrs. Sam Houston of Houston and three sons, W.E. and Victor both of Whiteflat and James P. Smith who resides at Roaring Springs.
Services were conducted by Rev. H.T. Harris, pastor of the Whiteflat Baptist Church , who was assisted by Rev. G.C. Tubbs, Baptist pastor at Floydada and R. H.L. Burnam, now pastor of the Baptist church at Silverton and former Baptist pastor at Whiteflat. Interment was made in Whiteflat Cemetery.
