The petition of John Annis Costianes
First. My place of residence is 270 Kalos Street, Philadelphia, Pa.
Second. My occupation is cook.
Third. I was born on the 13th day of October 1895 at Sparta, Greece
Fourth. I emigrated to the United States from Pireaus, Greece on or about the 16th day of September, 1912 and arrived in the United States at the port of New York on the 3rd day of October, 1912 on the vessel Themistokles.
Fifth. I declared my intention to become a citizen of the United States on the 18th day of December, 1923 at Philadelphia in the District Court of U.S.
Sixth. I am married. My wife's name is Bertha; she was born on the 14th day of May 1895 at Greece and now resides with me.
I have 3 children and the name, date and place of birth and residence of each is:

Helen 12-19-21 Phila with me
Kalope 10-2-23 Phila. with me
Seventh. ...renounce all allegiance to the Greek Republic.
Eighth. I am able to speak the English language.
Ninth. I have resided continuously in the United States of America for the term of five years at least, immediately preceding the date of this petition to wit, since the 13th day of October 1_91, and in the state of Pennsylvania, continuously next preceding the date of this petition, since the 13th day of October 1912, being a residence within this State of at least one year next preceding the date of this petition.
Tenth. I have not heretofore made petition for citizenship to any court.

Obituary: Trenton Times, page B2, Trenton New Jersey, Wednesday, April 30 1980:John A. Costianes (Costas), 84, of Princeton, formerly of 10 Spring Avenue, died Tuesday in Princeton Medical Center. Born in Sparta, Greece, he had resided in Princeton since 1938. He was the owner and operator of the G. & L. Restaurant on Witherspoon Street, Princeton, for 22 years, before retiring in 1960. The husband of the late Bertha M. Costianes, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Amanda C. Lankas of North Brunswick, Mrs. Helen C. Uphoff of Doylestown, Pa., and Mrs. Kathryn C. Treires of McLean, Va.; a son, Peter J. Costas of Princeton; eight granddaughter; three great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. Prayer services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Kimble Funeral Home, 1 Hamilton Ave., Princeton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. in St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will be in the Princeton Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Trisagion services will be conducted at 8 p.m.

John A. Costianes (Costas), 84, formerly of 10 Spring Street, died April 29 in Princeton Medical Center. Born in Sparta, Greece, he had lived in Princeton since 1938. Mr. COstianes was the owner and operator of the G&L Restaurant on Witherspoon Street for 22 years before retiring in 1960. Husband of the late Berthat M. Costianes, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Amanda C. Lankas of North Brunswick, Mrs. Helen C. Uphoff od Doylestown, Pa., and Mrs. Kathryn C. Treires of McLean, Va.; a son, Peter J. Costas of Princeton; eight grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters. The service was held in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Trenton, with Burial in Princeton Cemetery. Arrangements were under direction of the Kimble Funeral Home.
