Konstantinos Michail Aridas or Michalakakos
(1912 - 17 Dec 1958)
Konstandinos Michalakakos -- 2 different theories as to why he has a different name: (1) George Revelos said his mother, Effrosyni Aridas, learned when she was in Greece in the 1950's that the original family name was Michalakakos, but an ancestor had long legs and he got the nickname "Arida" (long leg or big foot); (2) George Aridas said the original family name was Aridas, but Kostandinos was a minister in Athens and he didn't like the name Aridas so he took his father's name, Michail, and called himself Michalakakos
October 2013:
Research done by Aris Poulimenakos confirms that Konstantinos Mihalakakos is the son of Mihail Aridas. This is the Proof that Aridas and Mihalakakos are the same family.
Research on the Michalakakos/Aridas name. According to George Revelos, there is a story that the name, Aridas, used to be Michalakakos. There was an ancestor who had long legs, and he was given the nickname of Aridas (meaning long legs).
*Note: Received a copy of Family Register from Mystras, from George Revelos in October 2009. That family register had Konstantinos listed. George said the following: "As for Kosta Mihalakakos, that is Kosta Aridas. My uncle wrote my mother back in the late 940's that he had uncovered the real name for Aridas as Mihalakakos. He said that one of the ancestors had long legs which is what Aridas translates to from arida (leg). It was a nickname that stuck. So, there for a while we were saying that mom was a Mihalakakos. It didn't take long for that to disappear. I think my uncle Kosta had that put in. Maybe the note after his name references that. I can't make out what it says."
"Kosta never married. He went to Athens to study and became a theologian. In his youth, he was a pole vaulter and won a cup for placing first in Sparta. He contracted tuberculosis while in Athens and died there."
Source: George N. Revelos, email to Carol Petranek, October 16, 2009.
Email from George N. Revelos to Carol Petranek, October 5, 2009: Kosta died in the 1950's from TB. He was a theologian and never married."
March 2012: Email exchange with Aris Poulimenakis. He wrote:
From this copy seems an only child of this family, Constantine, changed his name from "Aridas" took surname "Michalakakos". This is no coincidence, since his father was Michael.
But if the "Michalakis" had before the "Aridas" wants this research. Searching enough to document, after his father Michael was written "Aridas" then his grandfather would be the closest that perhaps written "Michalakakou." His grandfather was born around to 1830 - 1840, after Michael was born in 1867. As we go back fewer items. There is however likely to find this, if indeed true.
September 2013: Received Mitroon Arrenon (Male Register) from Aris Poulimenakos:
Mihalakakos, konstandinos; father: Mihail; born 1912 in Agios Ioannis.
Aris wrote: Register Males, St. John, where born in 1912 seems the michalakakos Konstantinos Michael is the only one we have identified in the Municipal Roll Michalakakos be written. Here in the remarks column says "correcting surname" and not change (επώνυμο διόρθωση = surname correction). So it was Michalakakos but his name and "Aridas". Very important!
This appears to be the proof we need that the Aridas name is derived from Mihalakakos!

July 2016: George Aridas to Carol Petranek: Konstantinos was a minister in the government in Athens. He changed his name from Aridas to Michalakakos because he did not like the name Aridas in his profession.
