Occupation1914Sgt Saddler in the Berry Half Squadron of Light Horse for two years & joined World War I on the first day (his army number was 6). Prior to enlisting he had been an iron worker, living in Marrickville with a 2 year old son. He joined the 1st Field Ambulance in the Medical Corps on 24th August 1914 alongside his younger brother Sydney (#102)
Note1915Jack embarked on HMAT Euripides on 20 Oct 1914 and trained in Egypt. He was admitted to 15th General Hospital, Alexandria on 22 Jul 1915 with malaria and sent to King George Hospital, Stamford St, London on 15 Aug 1915. Discharged fit for service he left England 5 Nov 1915 & joined the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force in Egypt attached to the 3rd Field Ambulance
Death24 Nov 1915(his first day on Gallipoli) - Gallipoli, Turkey
Note25 Nov 1915Jack had gone for a walk with Sgt Gunn of the 3rd Field Ambulance. Both men were killed by a shell near to the 13th Casualty Clearing Station not far from No 2 Outpost. His name is recorded on the 7th Field Ambulance Cemetery, Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey
