[The Hastings] purchased the Point Shares property ][in Bermuda]...built a substantial residence, known far and wide as "Soncy"...and made it their permanent home. Mrs. Hastings' great personal charm, initiative and ability drew a large and devoted circle of friends about her, the Bermudians; English army and navy officers stationed on the islands or with their ships; visiting foreigners of distinction and enormous numbers of Americans."
