Birth, death and marriage dates are from John Brugh's family Bible.

"Virginia Payrolls for war of 1812" page 24 states that "John Brough served in Capt. Andrew Lewis company 121 regiment , Va. Militia, Botetourt Co. of the "Flying Camp" commanded by Capt. James Mcdowell, from July 10th to Sept. 28, 1813. He was entitled to land bounty for his service.
He built the old Edward Brugh house and barn later owned by Frank W. Brugh.
John and wife are buried in the old Simmons Graveyard. Graves are marked.
