Peter DIERDORFF

(7 August 1804 - 20 April 1886)

After marriage, Peter and Anna farmed in Dover Twp., York CO. PA. until 1852, when they moved to Elkhart Co., IND. Peter was a minister in the German Baptist Rock Run Congr. in eastern Elkhart Co, near Goshen, IND. He created some contention in that church by his insistence that lamb should be used for the communion supper, instead of beef. He strong views finally led to his being disowned by the church so he formed a group of his own who agreed with his thinking, and remained apart until his death in 1886. He was an excellent farmer, and one of the most prosperous in the district. Peter owned a Dierdorff family bible in which were written notes on Peter's ancestry, their coming to America, and the names, birth dates and birth places of some of the ancestors. This bible was to be passed on to the youngest living son of each generation, and presently is in the possession of Clifford L. Holdread, Jr.

Found in 1850 census, Dover Twp., York Co., Pa, page 294, dwelling 153, family number 153, enumerated 28 Aug 1850. Age given in 46. Occupation farmer. Birthplace given as York Co., PA.
