Dear Fellow Wells Genealogist,Our Wells family tree has been stuck for some time, and I'm hoping the internet will help us knock down our current and roadblock.
I'm a descendent of Henry Wells (b. 1720-40, d. 1790+). He resided for most of his life in New York, near the Albany area. He was married in 1759+/-, and his last known residence was Watervliet, N.Y. in 1790. Many Wells genealogists have spent endless hours going through New York baptism records of that time and have come up empty, giving us an indication that our Henry Wells wasn't born in that part of New York.
We know Henry Wells married Nelly Van Vliet, whose parents were Teunis Van Vliet and Sarah Van Wagenen of Kingston, N.Y. Henry and Nelly had many children: Teunis (b. 1761), maybe a Samuel (b. 1763), Mary (b. 1765), Sarah (b. 1767), another Mary (b. 1769), Henry (b. 1771), Isaac (b. 1775), Jacob (b. 1775), Nelly (b. 1778) and John (b. 1780). Most of the children were born in Kinderhook, N.Y.
We suspect our Henry's mother's name was Mary. Also, his DNA is connected to a Henry Wells (b. 1672, d. 1712/14) of Bucks/Berks County, Pa.. Henry and Elizabeth Wells had nine children: William (b. 1691, Bucks County, Pa.), Joseph, John, Peter, James (b. 1703/05), Henry, Edward, Samuel and Abraham. The Pennsylvania Henry Wells was the oldest of six sons who descended from Edmund Wells (b. 1640, d. 1703+) and wife Mary, including a John (b. 1676), who married Hannah English. We have records starting Edmund Wells did some preaching in New Jersey (Burlington County?). We've also learned Edmund had an older brother, John, who had a son, John, who married Olive Hunt.
Due to the DNA link, we're particularly interested in the brothers and descendents of Henry Wells, as well as Edmund Wells. However, some of us also suspect our Henry comes from a Wells line from Connecticut or Massachusetts.
If anyone has any information which may be helpful, a massive number of Wells genealogists would be grateful.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Bill Wells
- Henry, Teunis (b. 1761), John Sr. (b. 1796), John Jr. (b. 1831), Eugene (b. 1862), Emmett (b. 1888), Ken (b. 1913), David (b. 1937), Bill (b. 1968)

here's what i know/think/have info on:
joseph and peter: no info
henry: b. 1703/08, m. a mary ? before 1740
john: m. susanna martin abt. 1734 in montgomery co., pa., d. 1749, new britain, bucks co.

our line is stuck on henry wells (b. 1720/40, m. nelly van vliet 1756/59, d. 1790+). we suspect our henry's mom's name was mary.
