Notes
Note
In Nelson Co. an Annie Wells, whom I am sure was his daughter by a first/former marriage, married Ethelbert Mills. I can't find them on a later Ky. census. On her license she stated she was born 1766 and pronounced her name as "Weels" - that would be the Welsh pronunciation and in Fayette Co., Pa on a list of tax payers there are many Weels, but not that far back. (Collins Hist. Said 120,000 acres of land were set aside Ky. for the Welsh immigrant - area sounds like Nelson Co.!)Residence
He came to Ky. from Jacobs Creek area 1783 -- from Fayette and Westmoreland. I [Louella] believe he was a brother of the Samuel who was killed at the Long Cr. Massacre.[there is a Jacobs Creek, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania; also a Westmoreland, Fayette, Kentucky; also a Fayette, Fayette, Pennsylvania]
Residence
In 1783 Abraham Wells was with his brother Edward in Mt. Pleasant Twp., Westmoreland Co., Pa. on the N. side of Jacobs Creek.Residence
Abraham lived on E. Fk. of Cox's Creek and Froman's Wagon Road. He purchased land from William Collins, Sr. and wife Phebe (sic) of Shelby Co. and in 1792 [it may read 1797] he obtained a 64A tract from (Gen) James Cox - it read "joining land he already owns."Census
Note: Samuel Wells and Carty Wells also listed in Nelson County. They may be relatives.Residence
In 1802 Abraham sold his Nelson Co. land and moved up to Shelby Co. On the old (1883) plat book for Shelby, an A. Wells is listed. I was told - if the land did not move out of the family, a deed and change of title did not have to be recorded - not until it went out of the family.I feel sure Abraham moved to Shelby Co. to be near his daughter Mary who had married Wm. Collins. They are among the founders of Salem Church in addition to a Lydia Collins, and to be near Samuel's family.
On the old Shelby map there are many Collins shown.

Residence
Three of his sons migrated to Indiana between 1807 and 1810. Abraham purchased land in Gibson Co in 1815 according to Vincennes Land Office District records, and was still alive there in 1819, as shown by records of the Harmony Store in Posey Co IN. His widow and several of his children appear on the 1820 census of Gibson Co IN.Residence
In 1815, Abraham purchased from the Govt 160A in Montgomery Twp. Gibson Co. I have done a title search and have located the land and been there. There is a little cemetery right across the road, but it was not there in 1820 when he died. By this time Indiana was a State and the first to use Public Land Surveys instead of metes and bound.Note
This area is hard to pin down - About this time Lancaster Co. covered most of central Pa.Note
possible brother of Samuel Wells, Sr. according to Loella Young letter; I have looked extensively online and found Samuel Wells family, and there is no mention of Abrahamsee http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=beckywalker&id=I1855
and http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=lawrencea&id=I334
Religion
Records say they were Episcopalians until they came to Ky. and then became Baptists. Will
The will is strange because he orders the land to be sold "if" needed to pay off the cost of the land. If the debt could be resolved some of it was to go to one girl and another half to the other and her mother. That's why I'd like to see the land transaction - to see if it sold.I noticed on the old Atlas map of Nelson Co., in the area of his land, there was noted "C. Wells" - this must have been Charles - again that book was printed 1883.
