Obituary
Betty A. Ross of Bob-O-Link Place in Sandestin, Fla., died peacefully Sept. 19, 2009, at the home of her daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" Colhoun and son-in-law Herbert Abelow in Mill River surrounded by her family and friends. Betty was born on June 30, 1919 in Trumball, Neb., the daughter of Robert and Joy Edwards Rigg. She and her family moved to Denver, where she attended local schools and earned a degree in nursing. Betty met her husband, Clifford L. Ross, in Denver and they were married on Sept. 7, 1941. Much of their married life was spent in Pawling, N.Y., where they raised their four children, Robert Dean, Clifford Dean, Elizabeth Ann and Michael Rigg Ross. Betty and Cliff were also privileged to include in their extended family H. Anthony McDonald and Karen Maureen LeMarquand of Old Fort Bay, Quebec. Betty was an active member of the Pawling community. She was a past president of the Pawling Garden Club, a deacon of Christ Church on Quaker Hill, a past president of the Pawling Bridge Club and a volunteer to various organizations. She was an avid gardener and a much sought after bridge partner in Sandestin. Betty will be remember by her many friends and family as a warm and loving woman. She is survived by her son, Cliff and his wife Lisa of The Villages, Fla.; daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" Colhoun and her husband Herbert Abelow of Mill River; her sister, Shirley Haskins of Virginia Beach, Va.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford; and her two sons, Robert and Michael. Services for the late Betty A. Ross will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires or the MS Society through Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
