Death
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Friday for Helen Furr Elwood, 403 N. East Ave., who died Tuesday (Jan. 1, 2002) at Avante of Concord. Born June 7, 1926, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Elwood, a daughter of the late George P. and Minnie Clontz Furr, was a member of Sunrise Freewill Baptist Church. She retired from Cannon Mills Co. Plant 4 card room. Her husband, Ralph Gilbert Elwood, died in 1995. Survivors include daughter Carol Sue Stegall, Kannapolis; sons Ralph “Sonny” Elwood, Quincy, Mass., and Ronnie Elwood, Kannapolis; half sister Frances Lefler, Kannapolis; half brother George Tucker, Kannapolis; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m.Friday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Harry Ferguson. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove. Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
