Death
Donald Harold Hankins, 81, of Ernest Court, High Point, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017. He was born May 19, 1936, in Guilford County, the eldest son of Akers and Alma Barnes Hankins. He attended Allen Jay Schools and was a professional trucker driver. During his youth he raced at Tri-City Speedway as well as Charlotte and South Carolina racetracks. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed fishing. He was of the Baptist faith. On Aug. 7, 1953, he married Marilyn Elisabeth Davis of High Point, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were a daughter, Gail Morgan; a son, Tony Hankins; and three brothers, Wesley Hankins, Junior Hankins and Ray Dale Hankins. Survivors include a son, Mark Hankins, and a grandson, Benjamin Morgan III, both of the home. Other survivors include eldest son Danny Hankins and wife Carol of Trinity; two granddaughters, Robyn Hankins of Trinity and Lori Lyons and husband Christopher of Asheboro; four grandsons, Taylor Hankins and wife Rachael of Archdale, Cory Hankins, Steven Hankins and Zachary Hankins; three great-grandchildren, Alexander Lyons, Avery Lyons and Ava Anne Hankins; a sister, Shelby Benson and husband Willie; a brother, Eugene Hankins and wife Savannah; two daughters-in-law, Doris Hankins and Dale Hankins; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Hankins and Nancy Hankins; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Sparky. Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. in the Midway Wesleyan Church cemetery at 358 Worthville Road in Randleman.
