Death
Patricia “Pat” Lane Black, 79, went to be with her heavenly Father on Friday, October 20, 2023. Pat was born on December 30, 1943, to A. D. Kirby and Naomi Ruth Furr Kirby in Rowan County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Ray Kirby, Gary “Buck” Kirby, and Barry Kirby, and her sisters Maxine Leonard, Shirley Fox Tyner, and Barbara Ferguson. Pat worked for Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, NC from 1962-1982 in the weave room. After retiring from the mill, she became a business owner. In 1982, she started her own cleaning business. This allowed her the opportunity to serve and become friends with many people in the community. Pat was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed taking care of others, including her husband and their late friend Ralph Miller. Pat’s hobbies included cooking, decorating, collecting antiques, and telling others about Jesus. She dedicated her life to serving the Lord and her church. She was a long-time member of Temple Baptist Church until becoming a member at Unity Baptist Church. She loved her church community with all her heart. She was very involved in church ministries by teaching Sunday school, singing, worshiping, cooking, and praying. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 43 years Roy Odell Black; son Mike Fisher; daughter Tina Murray; brother Ronnie Kirby; grandchildren Hannah Couchenour (Dan), Kolby Fisher, Dyane Daigle, and Chris Coffey (Jennifer); great-grandchildren Hannah Daigle, Caleb Daigle, Noah Daigle, Ava Coffey, Aiden Coffey, Zella Couchenour, and Storie Couchenour. A celebration of life will be held in her honor on October 24, 2023, at Unity Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Tommy Wensil and Pastor Terry Dietz, 401 E 16th Street Kannapolis, NC 28083. Visitation will start at 11 am and the service will start at 1 pm. Burial will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove, NC following the service. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Betty Painter for all the compassion and help she provided during the last several weeks of Pat’s life. The family would also like to thank Via Hospice for their excellent care.Endnotes
