Death

INDIAN TRAIL -- Mrs. Velma Broome Simpson, age 92, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at Presbyterian Hospital, Hospice Unit. Mrs. Simpson was born October 23, 1909 in Union County, daughter of the late George W. and Ella Benton Broome, and the widow of the late Louie Ervin Simpson who died March 16, 1992. Mrs. Simpson was a homemaker. A service to celebrate Mrs. Simpson's life will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the Friendly Baptist Church, with Rev. Roy Yow, Rev. Ken Parsons, and Rev. Mike Whitson officiating. Interment will follow in the Price Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. Survivors include six daughters, Elsie Helms and husband, Morrison, Pat Ormond and husband, Mel, Sara Furr and husband, David, all of Indian Trail, NC, Shelby Ledbetter Rash and husband, Phil of Thomasville, NC, Anne Austin and husband, Ken and Libby Little, both of Monroe, NC; six sons, Rev. Aldred Simpson and wife, Rachel, Keith Simpson and wife, Judy, Lowell Simpson and wife, Jackie, Mick Simpson and friend, Sherry Page, all of Indian Trail, NC, Don Simpson and wife, Marlene of Monroe, NC, Heath Simpson and wife, Lib of Myrtle Beach, SC; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-six great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Union County, 700 West Roosevelt Boulevard, Monroe, NC 28110 or to Friendly Baptist Church, c/o Kay Gibson, 4418 Zack Road, Monroe, NC 28110.
