Death

Stephen G. Furr died at his home in Silver Shoal last. Saturday night at 9:30 o’clock, aged eighty one years. He had been in declining health for a year, and while his death was not altogether unexpected, it proved a great shock to his relatives and friends. Mr. Furr was one of Banks’ most substantial citizens, and a man of lovable disposition and many good traits of character and will be greatly missed in the community in which he lived. He is survived by two children, Mrs. Sallie Waters and Hon. P. F. M. Furr. Rev. Mr. Sanders of Toccoa, conducted the funeral services at Silver Shoal church Sunday after noon at 3 o’clock and paid a beautiful tribute to the memory of the dead pioneer. He spoke very touchingly of the time when he baptized Mr. Furr and of his conversion and connection with the Baptist church. The deceased was a Master Mason, and his remains were then taken in charge by that order and conveyed to the cemetery where the beautiful Masonic rites were performed. The large concourse of people attending to pay their last sad tribute of respect, showed in what esteem he was held by his friends and fellow citizens, probably live hundred people being present.
