Notes
Death
Rosemary Chambless Lawson, formerly of Charlotte, NC, died Friday January 4, 2013 in Wilmington, NC. She was born March 11, 1913 in Montgomery, Alabama to the late Rose Sharpe Chambless and Loyd Johnson Chambless and received her early education in the Montgomery school system. Following her high school graduation she visited an aunt and uncle in New Haven, CT and stayed for 18 months, completing training as a comptometer operator. Homesick for Montgomery, Rosemary returned and her life was changed when introduced to a mechanical engineer student from Auburn University, a football teammate of her brother. Rosemary Chambless and Dan Lawson were married in 1938 and celebrated 69 years together until his death in 2007. There was a competitive side to Rosemary and it was evident on the golf course. She took up the game when she was 40 and played for over 50 years making 3 holes in one and also a double eagle during a tournament. Rosemary enjoyed designing and sewing formal clothing. She enjoyed reading, especially mysteries, and was an excellent bridge partner who was often the only one that could fill out the scorecard. Rosemary Lawson is survived by son Dan James Lawson, Jr. and his wife, Rebecca, of Chattanooga, TN and daughter Jeaneen Lawson Furr and her husband, Daniel, of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren Chris Lawson, Mary Lawson Carlton, Scott Furr, Andrew Furr, Russell Furr and Daneen Furr Lipscomb. She was preceded in death by grandson Alex Lawson. Rosemary is also survived by 10 great grandchildren: Savannah Furr, Drew Furr, Landen Furr, Daniel Furr, Jack Furr, Madeline Furr, Jacob Lawson, Kaitlyn Rosemary Lawson, Wyatt Carlton and Alyssa Carlton. Imagine the changes you could witness in 99 years. Rosemary Lawson was born into a time and society much different from 2013, yet she understood and accepted what transpired during her almost century of living. She was a woman of integrity with a unique appreciation for detail and the energy to persevere while maintaining an eye for what was practical. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at Covenant Church, 210 Station Road, Wilmington, NC 28405, with Pastor Jim Davis officiating. The family will be receiving friends at 11:00 a.m. at Covenant Church and immediately following the service at 2344 Scotts Hill Loop Road, Wilmington, NC. Memorials may be made to Covenant Church.Endnotes
