Death
SUNBURY - Ralph E. Furr, 84, of 313 Vine St., passed away on Monday evening, Dec. 21, 2009, at Kramm Healthcare, Milton. He was born June 16, 1925, in Sunbury, a son of the late Herman and Margaret (Whiteman) Furr. He was married to the former Viola M. Kehler who preceded him in death. Ralph was a 1943 graduate of the Sunbury High School and served with the Army in Europe during World War II. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was formerly employed as a machinist for TRW, Danville. He was a member of the American Legion Post 201, a life member of the Rescue Hose Co., the Sunbury Moose Lodge, and the Sunbury Eagles Lodge. Ralph enjoyed playing shuffleboard. He is survived by two sons, Gary R. Furr and Timothy T. Furr, both of Sunbury; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen L. and Albert Kline, of Sunbury; two stepdaughters and their spouses, Carol and Barry Verano and Diane and Robert Wilson, all of Sunbury; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ronald Furr, of Northumberland. He was preceded in death by two stepsons, Robert and Chester. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St. Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 11. Burial will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.Published in The Daily Item on 12/23/2009
