Death
Funeral services for Troy Whitener, 85, of Houston, formerly of Malakoff, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens, with James Starkes officiating. Interment will follow at Trinidad Cemetery in Trinidad. He passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2011 in Houston. Albert Troy Whitener was born June 8, 1925 in Jester to Alfred Thomas and Myrtle Widener Whitener. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. Troy married Martha Lou Drake in Malakoff on April 6, 1946. He moved from Malakoff to Dallas, and later to Houston where he lived for 45 years. Troy retired as a Real Estate Investor in 2008, and was a member of the VFW, and the Adelphi Sunday school class at the First Methodist Church in Houston. Troy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Martha Lou Drake Whitener in 1996; sons, Mark Russell Whitener and William Payton Whitener. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly Daylor and husband Steve, of Houston and three grandchildren, Ryan Malone, Evan Malone, and Victoria Daylor. Pallbearers will be Ryan Malone, Evan Malone, Steve Daylor, Ben Brownlow, Chris Drake and Blaine Drake.Athens Daily Review, Athens, Texas, March 7, 2011
