Death
Lt. Col. Woodrow Wilson Furr died Wednesday at Keesler Air Force Base Medical Center. He was a native of Claiborne County, and, since retiring in from the United States Air Force in 1960, had resided in Gulfport. His duties included squadron commander and adjutant of Keesler Air Force Base Hospital 1948-49; director of personnel, U.S. Air Force Hospital, Nagoya, Japan, 1949-52; executive officer of Nellis Air Force Base Hospital, Las Vegas, Nevada 1952-55; administrator to the director of professional service and executive officer, Keesler Air Force Base Hospital, 1955-59. He was director of medical supply and budget, 5th Air Force Headquarters, Madrid, Spain. He was awarded the Combat Infantry badge, the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Presidential Unit Citation, Commendation Medal, and the European Theater Badge with two battle stars. He was a graduate of the Institute of Insurance Marketing, LSU, Baton Rouge, La., a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a 32nd degree Mason, and member of the Gulfport Yacht Club, Silhouette Club, Officer's Club and Pass Christian Golf Club. Survivors include his wife, Sydney Starr Furr, Gulfport; a daughter, Mrs. Linda Furr Carter of Florida; a brother, Jones Bernard Furr, Gautier; a sister, Miss Lela Mae Furr, Gulfport and three grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Gulfport. Friends may call from noon until service time at the church. Burial will be in the National Cemetery in Biloxi with full military honors at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
