Death

Services for Colleen Kay Furr Mays age 68 of Slocum will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, Elkhart with Rev. Thera Freeman and Bro. Randy Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford Cemetery. Arrangements are under the directions of Bailey & Foster. Mrs. Mays died Sunday at her residence. She was born July 13, 1947 in Powell, WY to Collin Furr and Barbara Franks Furr. Mrs. Mays was a life long educator, teaching in Midlothian ISD, Elkhart ISD and TVCC. She was a Methodist and attended Slocum Union Church. Mrs. Mays was preceded in death by her mother Barbara Franks Furr, a sister Cathy Hogan, and a brother Duane Furr. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, James Ronald Mays of Slocum, her father Collin Furr and step-mother Marjorie of Comfort, two sons, Ron Mays and wife Kelly of Elkhart, and Roger Mays and wife Jessica of Palestine, sisters, Connie Furr and Jeannie Furr all of Comfort, a brother Dean Furr of Fredricksburg, four grandchildren, Katie Phillips and husband Lance, James Mays, Landry Mays and Mallory Mays, two great grandchildren Riley Phillips, and Jax Phillips. Condolence calls will be received from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Elkhart . Pallbearers will be James Ronald Mays, Ron Mays, Roger Mays, David Mays, Danny Mays.
