Death
Thomas Marshall Smith, Sr, 42, of 510 Bruns Avenue died suddenly Saturday evening in a local hospital. Born October 26, 1921, in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Channing L. and Rosella Eury Smith. He was a veteran of World War II and was employed in the service department of General Electric for 11 years. Mr. Smith was a member of McQuay Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Adult Sunday School Class and Men’s Good Fellowship Club. He was an officer in AFL-CIO. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Furr Smith; two daughters, Miss Pamela Rose Smith, Miss Sherry Lynn Smith, both of the home; three sons, Thomas M. Smith, Jr., Daryle W. Smith, Larry Ray Smith, all of the home; four sisters, Mrs. Margaret McLaughlin, Miss Dorothy Smith, both of Charlotte, Mrs. Ann Hinson of Locust, Mrs. Kate Haigler of Indian Trail; six brothers, Robert Lee Smith, Albert Smith, Jim Smith, Charles Smith, all of Locust Howard Smith of Marshville and Woodrow Smith of Lancaster, S. C. Funeral services to be held Monday, 3 p. m. from McQuay Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. A. Jackson Morrison, the pastor, officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. Harold Adcock, pastor of First Methodist Church. Full military rites will be accorded at the graveside in Sharon Memorial Park. Active pallbearers are R. E. L. Prather, Henry Neely, John Litaker, Claude Dellinger, W. R. Navey, Sr. and J. C. Reid, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are members of Adult Sunday School Class, members of Good Fellowship Club, employes of General Electric Shop Department, Dr. Charles Norris and Dr. William Kelemen. Mr. Smith will be taken from the McEwen Funeral Home to the church at 1:30 p. m. to lie in state.
