Notes
Death
Miss Elizabeth "Lizzie" Doswell Drummond married in Texas to Samuel H. Smith of Kentucky. Eight children were born to this union and seven survive. As a young woman, she taught school in and around present-day Roanoke until her marriage. Elizabeth taught at the Litsey Ranch, which is west of Roanoake, Texas. Elizabeth had attended Sullins Female College in Tennessee. She was a talented musician and had been privately tutored in New York. Mrs. Lizzie D. Smith, 91, who has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Adam Furr, here for the past six years, died at the Furr residence. She had been bedfast since she fell at her home in 1938 in San Antonio, Texas. She injured her hip. Funeral services were held at McCracken Funeral home chapel under the direction of Rev. Brown, pastor of the Ingleside Methodist church. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Methodist church and well known throughout the area. She and her husband moved to Denton soon after their marriage. In 1903, they moved to Graham where her husband worked at the mill. In 1908, they moved their family near the Padgett community where they lived three years. They moved to Olney where they lived until they were separated. Lizzie then lived with her children. When Lizzie Smith fell and broke her hip, Jennie Smith quit her teaching position to care for her mother and did so for the rest of her life. In 1938, Walter Dilbeck and Ellis Furr moved Jennine and Lizzie to the house in the yard behind Adam Furr's house. Survived by her children - Mrs. Furr, Miss Jennie Smith, Gilbert E. Smith, Sam A. Smith, Lawrence Smith, Grover Cleveland Smith, and Jesse D. Smith; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.Endnotes
