L.J. "Jack" Watson Jr., 87, of Rowland died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at Liberty Commons Nursing in Benson. He was born Feb. 4, 1919, in Wingate to the late Lemuel Jackson and Mary Pearl Liles Watson. He was a graduate of Wingate High School and Wingate Junior College before attending UNC-Chapel Hill.He worked in the ship yards in Norfolk, Va., during World War II. Mr. Watson was a retired banker, starting with Southern National Bank of Lumberton (now BB&T), with more than 40 years of banking. He retired as vice president in charge of branch expansions throughout North Carolina. Mr. Watson was a Mason, Shriner and a member of the Rowland Lions Club. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Dec. 17 at Rowland UM Church by the Rev. Brian Perry. Burial followed at Rowland Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Grace C. Watson; daughters, Barbara W. Furr and husband Jim of Wilmington, and Anne Marie Futrell of Angier; grandsons, Michael S. Steele and wife Claudette, and Christopher R. Steele.
