STANFIELD -- Ray Leaolen Connell, 84, 500 W. Stanly St., died Tuesday (Feb. 25, 2003) at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle. Born July 2, 1918, in Union County, Mr. Connell was a son of the late Steven Jefferson and Maggie Leo James Connell. He was a mechanic with Carolina Transport, Charlotte, and a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include wife Autie Clontz Connell; son Charles Connell, Locust; daughters Mildred Williams, Salisbury, and Carol Furr, Gold Hill; brother James Edward Connell, Charlotte; sister Arzenna Turner, Monroe; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Services: 2 p.m. Friday, First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Bruce League. Burial, church cemetery. Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Midland.Endnotes
