Death

George Kenneth Untz, age 87, passed away Friday, January 31,2014 at Tucker Hospice House. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2014 at Hartsell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 4,2014 at Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church with Reverend Joshua Case and Reverend John Muse officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Untz was born July 20, 1926 in Cabarrus County, son of the late Earnest Lawrence and Lillie Pearl Ballard Untz. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ernestine Untz Morris and Mary King Untz Smith and brother Basil C. Untz. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Furr Untz of Concord, NC; daughters, Susan Untz Tadlock and husband, Greg of Harrisburg, NC; Patti Untz McGuire and husband Don of Cocoa Beach, FL; grandchildren, Heather and Joshua Case, Amanda and Marty Strickland, James A. (Trey) Fisher Jr., Alana and Jeremy White, Emily Fisher, and Bryan and Michelle Tadlock; great-grandchildren, Bella and Ben Case, Lexie Strickland, Eva and Eli White, and Brycen and Arabella Fisher, Grant Tadlock; sister, Virginia Untz Johnston; brother, Joseph G. Untz. Ken, as he was known by his friends, was a graduate of Odell High School and Spencer School of Watch Repair. He spent over fifty years working as a watch and jewelry repairman in downtown Concord at Shepherd’s Jewelry, Ellis Jewelers and at his own shop, Ken’s Watch and Jewelry Repair. He was a member of Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church for 87 years where he served his Lord as a teacher, Deacon, and choir member.
